Finally, A Good Steak Can Be Had in Utah!
From pristine national parks and ski resorts to mountain biking trails and destinations like Moab and Park City, we have a lot to proud of here in the state of Utah. And now, thanks to Salt Lake City-based Latitude Restaurant Group, you can finally add ‘a great steak’ to that list. Last December, Ruth’s Chris Steak House announced that it had reached an agreement with Latitude to open Utah’s first nationally recognized fine-dining steak house.
I don’t want to make anyone’s mouth water too much, but if you’ve never been to a Ruth’s Chris Steak House, you’re really missing out on some terrific food, and I’m not just referring to the steaks either. New Orleans-inspired appetizers, the finest U.S. Prime cuts

Digging Out
Last week, while gearing up for my trip to the Wind River Range, I wrote about the burden that accompanies preparing for time spent away from the office. Now that I’m back, I remember another cost associated with being gone for extended periods of time: namely, that for every four days you spend away from the office, you spend at least one full day digging out! I had so many email and voice messages waiting for me upon my return that I wondered why in the heck I’d even left in the first place.
And speaking of digging out, due to an approaching winter storm, our six-day trip got cut short by two full days. At 10,000 feet above sea level–which

The Work versus Vacation Paradox
When you know a month or so in advance that you’ll be taking a week’s vacation, does the knowledge of your impending break from work cause you to work more, or do you plot along at your normal pace regardless of the time you know you’ll be spending away from the business? My guess is that if you asked 100 entrepreneurs that very same question, at least 90 of them would say that an impending vacation or weeklong business trip would indeed cause them to work extra hours, if not holidays and weekends too.
My point? Well, I’m heading to one of the dark spots on the map tomorrow, and if the weather cooperates, I’ll be gone for the better part

A Dark Spot on The Map
Some of you may think I’ve stopped showing for work (after all, I haven’t blogged since the 12th of this month, and before that I took what amounted to an eight-day ‘blogging hiatus’). To satisfy anyone’s curiosity, I haven’t [stopped coming to work, that is], but if I ever did, it would probably be because I found a dark spot on the map and I’m staying put!
Click here or above for a birds-eye view.
For now, after having recently spent five hours on a plane flying back to Utah from Boston, I’d choose a dark spot close to home, like further west here in the Beehive State or somewhere up in Montana. How about you… where is

Risks verses Rewards
I did something last Thursday I never thought I would do. After conducting a lot of research and talking it over with my family and friends, I underwent Laser-Assisted In Situ Keratomileusis, otherwise known as LASIK eye surgery. If you’re not familiar with LASIK, it’s a surgical procedure that permanently changes the shape of your cornea and is intended to reduce your dependency on glasses or contact lenses. One week removed from the procedure and my vision is as sharp as a Bald Eagle’s swooping down on unsuspecting prey.
To say that I was nervous about the surgery would be an understatement. While almost everyone I spoke with [who had already undergone the procedure] raved about it and encouraged me to

Audience Awareness
I have a confession to make. I absolutely love Backpacker Magazine. It’s my outdoor adventure Bible. I read the magazine cover to cover each month when it arrives. For the past many years, Backpacker has sponsored an annual tour that they call Get Out More. From the Get Out More website:
BACKPACKER’s Get Out More tour provides the information and inspiration you need to get out and enjoy the outdoors. The team travels the United States for 6-months encouraging readers to pack their bags and get behind the wheel to find close-to-home outdoor adventures.
Each time they announce their tour schedule in the Spring, I look to see whether they are coming to Utah. This year, to my excitement, they had

Personal Time
Tonight, I went on a 6 mile hike with Brandon Delgrosso, Doba’s VP of Marketing, in the Timpanogos Wilderness Area that is about 20 minutes from where I live. It was a great hike, and while I could chalk it up to the Doba Fitness Challenge as it was quite a workout, the real reason that I jumped at the chance to go when Brandon asked me was because I’ve realized that most weeks, I spend very little of my time for myself.
Now I do get out on a week-long trip here and there, and those are great times for me to do a major recharge of my batteries. I typically am able to put work and business out
