Lunch w Seth Godin – “Linchpin: Are You Indispensable?”
I’ve never seen Seth Godin present in person. I’ve read a few of his books and occasionally follow his blog. Overall, I’ve been impressed with his thoughts and information.
Kelly King Anderson from StartupPrincess.com took the initiative and organized and event with Seth Godin here in SLC. She reached out to me, and needed some help with sponsors, so Doba signed on board to help the event out.
It’s at a cool new venue called The Rail Event Center.

All the proceeds benefit the The Red Cross for Haiti Relief effort.
And I’m very much looking forward to seeing that head in person.

Blowing Minds and Melting Faces at Ignite Salt Lake 2

LaunchUp.org
LaunchUp.org is a project I kicked off a couple months back. Best way I can describe it is like barn raising for entrepreneurs, like a community based advisory board. We’ll do monthly events, and maybe an all-day affair in the fall.
I want to work with the existing ecosystem of entrepreneurial support groups and organizations. And we’ll see how it evolves over time. If you have ideas, let me know.
Here’s what I posted on What is LaunchUp.org?
Basically the idea behind LaunchUp.org is the 2009 version of a good old fashioned barn raising applied to technology entrepreneurship.
This is something I’ve been thinking of and stewing on for a long time. Maybe it’s just me being cocky, but I think I’m good at what I do. I’m

Ignite Salt Lake 2
Next Thursday March 26th at 6:00 p.m. at Brewvies Cinema Pub is Ignite Salt Lake 2.
The slogan for Ignite is: “Enlighten us, but make it quick”. It was started by O’Reilly Media. Basically, presenters get 20 slides that auto-rotate every 15 seconds for a 5 minute total presentation about anything you want.
I’m presenting at Ignite SLC 2 with 15 other cool people. Outline of my presentation as submitted:
Blowing Minds and Melting Faces
Let’s face it. There’s nothing in the world like a mind blowing and face melting rock concert. Let’s explore the intricate (and inexplicable) parallels and links between rockers and entrepreneurs. Because what entrepreneur hasn’t wanted a laser light show for his startup?
It should be really fun. Again, it’s

Utah State University Entrepreneurship Seminar Blog
I was going to be speaking at the first annual Utah State University Entrepreneurship Seminar in April in Logan. But my extended trip to India over the next many weeks (more on that this coming week) threw those plans into the dumpster.
So, they asked if I’d kick off their blog for the seminar with the first post.
You can read Entrepreneurs: Defying Gravity over on that blog.
I really like this one, so go read it.

Social Media Thoughts & Charity Tweetup at Sundance
What is social media?
Well, first of all, media is a medium to share information; to share stories if you will. In the early years of human history, the media was the spoken word. That’s how stories were shared.
Fast forward to 2009, and the media has changed. Text, photos, audio, video. Drastically changed by significant technology innovations over hundreds of years, with that pace of change accelerating and accelerating in the last 20 years. The other component is the social one. Again, because of technology, and mostly because of the connecting nature of the worldwide network we call the Internet, people can now use these changed mediums to communicate and share in ways previously not possible. To be honest, I don’t get it sometimes,
