Update on my Day Job

Doba

Wanted to update everyone about Doba and me and whatnot.

I’ve spent the last year working on Doba SMB, an up-market version of Doba with different marketplace dynamics, different features, and an entirely different model. During that time, Blaine Nielsen and our exec team have focused on the core Doba business and things have gone very well. We just put up a release about it: Product Sourcing Leader Doba Bucks the Trend. 2009 looks like it will be a great year for Doba. The team is doing a fabulous job to bring new features to market, and in growing and solidifying our business.

2009 is shaping up to be an exciting year for me too. A few of us here at Doba are going to take what we’ve learned with Doba SMB and some of the core IP and work towards rebuilding some of our root virtual inventory system, and then spin that off into a software platform company, of which Doba will be our first, and premier, client. We’re trying to solve the data problem around virtual inventory in a more feature rich, scalable way for Doba, and then for other mid-market and enterprise customers. Exciting stuff.

It will probably take us most of this year to get there. During that time, I’m still involved at the high level with Doba, and have rolled my sleeves up to get back into the nitty gritty of this new challenge/opportunity. The new company will be called 9Aisle. We’re pretending to be in “Stealth Mode”, mostly since I’ve always wanted to have a startup in Stealth Mode, doesn’t that just sound awesome? I think it’s all bunk, but still. Maybe a Stealth Mode startup operated by Ninjas would be even better.

Anyway, more info I’m sure coming over the next year. Until then, check out www.9aisle.com.

We have a wing in our logo, and if that doesn’t blow your mind, well then I guess I just give up.
