2009 Entrepreneur Resolutions: Corporate Slogan Edition

Dec 31 2008

When the ball drops in Times Square tonight, we’ll close out 2008. About time.

I think most of us are looking around wondering what the future holds since the world around us has gone to hell in the proverbial handbasket.

If you’re an entrepreneur or aspiring entrepreneur, here are 7 resolutions for 2009, borrowed from some of my favorite corporate slogans:

Thousands of Possibilities. Get Yours. - Best Buy

  1. “Thousands of Possibilities. Get Yours.” – Best Buy — How perfect is that? Possibilities for us are endless, but you have got to go get them.

It’s the Network - Verizon Wireless

  2. “It’s the Network” – Verizon Wireless. — It really is. And technology has gotten to the point were we have infinitely more ways to built networks. We take money and people and ideas and solve problems to create opportunity. Money and people? It’s the Network.

Never Stop Exploring - The North Face

  3. “Never Stop Exploring” – The North Face — At a macro level, we have to continually explore ideas to find opportunities. And once we’ve found an opportunity, then at a micro level, we can never stop exploring ways to be innovative and disruptive.

    Where’s the Beef? - Wendy’s

  4. “Where’s the Beef?” – Wendy’s — Build a real business with a real business model with real value with real revenues. A lot of businesses started in the last 4-5 years and a lot of entrepreneurs have ideas without any beef. Not all good ideas are opportunities, and as such, they’re not businesses that can solve real problems and create jobs and value.

The Relentless Pursuit of Perfection - Lexus

  5. “The Relentless Pursuit of Perfection” – Lexus — We look at the world and say it’s not perfect, so we relentlessly pursue it and create companies and products along the way to move towards some future vision of perfection. The only way we’ll make it through handbasket hell is to demand perfection, and then bust our collective asses to move forward and make the world a better place.

Change We Can Believe In - Obama for America

  6. “Change We Can Believe In” – Obama for America — (I know it’s not a traditional corporation, but they spent enough money, they ran like one.) The change we really need is for us to solve problems, to disrupt industries, to change things (Health Care, Auto, Airlines, Energy, Finance, Poverty/Hunger, Environment, Water, Lifestyle, etc, etc.) Technology and the Internet will continue to drastically change the world. This is an awesome time for entrepreneurs to embrace change and accelerate disruption and to enable great things for the human race. Government will not be able to do this! Motivated individuals with vision and leadership can and will.

    Just Do It - Nike

  7. “Just Do It” – Nike. — Amen.

2008? Good Riddance!

Let’s get to work. 2009 here we come. Lots to change/fix so if you’ll excuse us, we have visions to fulfill, and a whole hell of a lot of work to even come close.

Hope everyone has a great New Year!!!

  • Love it, Jeremy. As a long-time advertising copywriter I live my slogans and taglines. Using a few to create a motivational plan for '09 is a great idea.
  • You know, I really like this. I'm going to apply these pricipals to my own business. Can you believe I formed my LLC last January and haven't made the first penny?
