Pictures tell all

In the past few weeks, I’ve come across 2 VERY interesting visuals.

The first is a visual guide to where your federal tax dollars go. If you click the image or here, it will link to a larger version online. You can even buy a print version. Cool.

A Visual Guide to Where your Federal Tax Dollars Go

Next is a visual showing how the GPD’s of COUNTRYS match up to the GDP of STATES in the US. You can click the image for a larger version. This post
talks more about it.

Hat tip to Blake Snow for pointing the GDP map out.

  • Ok how about this for comparison: The bloated EPA receives a whooping 0.67% of the National budget. The EPA is one of 24 top level departments in the Federal Government (according to the chart). 1/24th is 4.17%. Obviously all the top level departments are not of equal importance, but it does put some perspective on how bloated one organization is compared to some others.
  • That's hardly a fair comparison. The needs of the Coast Guard (a necessity) far outway the needs of the EPA (really nice to have). Just my favors-a-strong-military-and-thinks-the-EPA-is-corrupt opinion though.
  • WOW. I think America would be better off if more people knew what share of the budget went to what. I think most of us just go through the year not knowing, not even having a clue. I heard today that the US govt spends less that 1% of the budget on foreign aid. Looks like for 2008 that will hold true too.

One time in school I heard someone ranting about how bloated and big the EPA was. We spend more money on the Coast Guard than the EPA.
